Manoeuvre 7

August 03, 2023
This exercise is useful for turning your car around to face this opposite direction when there is no convenient place to reverse. Make the place you choose is safe, lawful and convenient. At first your instructor will help you to get things right first time by finding suitable places. For this exercise you will need to be on a fairly wide road with only a slight camber. Before you start park well away from any street furniture such as trees or lampposts. 1. Prepare the car for moving and look all around for other traffic and pedestrians. When it safe to do so, creep slowly forwards turning the wheel briskly to the right. Keep checking up and down the road. When you have moved over the centre of the road be ready to brake gently if your car starts rolling down the camber. About a metre away from the kerb turn the wheel briskly to the left and stop just short of the kerb. Secure the car with handbrake/electronic parking brake. 2. Select reverse and prepare the car for moving. Check all around for other traffic and pedestrians. When it is safe, move slowly backwards, looking over your left shoulder towards the kerb and turning the wheel briskly to the left. Keep checking up and down the road and be ready to brake gently if the car starts to roll down the camber. About a metre away from the kerb look over your right shoulder towards the kerb. Turn the wheel briskly to the right and stop just short of the kerb. Secure the car with handbrake/electronic parking brake. 3. Prepare the car for moving and look all around for others. When it is safe, creep slowly forward turning the wheel to the right and looking well down the road, until you are in the normal driving position. straighten the wheel and follow the mirror signal manoeuvre routine to pull in and park on the left. If you do not complete the exercise in three steps d not worry just repeat the second and third movements, remembering to make all necessary checks for other road users.
