Driving with distractions

August 03, 2023
Its a good idea to visit the toilet before a lesson as any discomfort will effect your concentration. Get ready in plenty of time so that you can spend a few minutes relaxing before you go out. This will also help you to collect your thoughts and prepare yourself mental for the lesson. You should try to avoid arguments because they will put you in the wrong frame of mind for both driving and learning. Make sure that ā€˜Lā€™ plates are displayed so that they can be seen clearly from the front and rear. The bumper is usually the best place to put them. You must not restrict your view of the road in front or behind . Do not put ā€˜ Lā€™ plates in the window and remove any stickers or toy mascots that might restrict your view. It is not normally a good idea to carry extra passengers during your first few lessons, because it can affect concentration. If you must, organise them so they get in from the footpath side and sit them where they will not restrict your view in the mirror. How to reduce distractions while you are driving. Children can get bored quickly and may make it difficult for you too concentrate on driving. If you must have them in the car when practising make sure that are restrained and kept under control. Before driving away, look around for loose articles that might distract you. Tidy up maps, papers or other articles that may be lying around. If they move about when you are accelerating, slowing down or cornering they could distract you and cause an accident. Make sure there is nothing on the floor likely to roll around such as a child ball. Apart from being a distraction, an aerosol can or other object rolling under the pedals may prevent the brakes from being applied. The concentration needed when driving can be quite tiring. You will need plenty of fresh air to help you stay alert. During cold weather you should keep the in-car temperature comfortable, but not too warm
