For maximum protection against this , correct head restraint adjustment is vital- but also too easy to over look. The head restraint should be adjusted so that the rigid part of the head restraint is at least as high as the eyes or top of the ears as close to the back of the head as is comfortable. An incorrectly adjusted head restraint offers little or no protection against whiplash injuries. Do not remove head restraints as they are there for your safety and can save you from more serious injuries in the event of an accident. Remember it as being a head restraint and not a head rest.
