Meeting traffic

July 14, 2023
When there are vehicles parked on your side of the road check it is safe and move towards the centre without impeding oncoming vehicles. This position will give you a better view ahead and reduce the risk of you getting boxed in. Be ready to slow down early and hold well back to give way to oncoming traffic. You should normally be prepared to wait in the hold back position until you can leave three or four feet clearance. Sometimes to avoid traffic hold - ups, it may be necessary to proceed through much narrower spaces . To increase your safety margin, feel your way through the gap at a very low creeping speed. This will give you plenty of time to respond if anything happens such as a driver suddenly opening the door.
